Welcome
The Edison Sailing Center is excited to be designated as the host for the 2009, 2.4 mR World Championship. This world class regatta will be sailed on the Caloosahatchee River from downtown Ft Myers Florida. The Caloosahatchee will offer a variety of challenges for the competitors. Weather that will go from 3-5 knots of wind one day to 25 knots the next. With typical shifty conditions of lake and river sailing, the competitors will have to stay on their toes to stay in the lead. The River is tidal at this location so the need to work the tidal currents will always be a challenge.
After racing, the Sailing Center will host dinners of local cuisine including local, fresh seafood, southern style BBQs and other great tastes.
We have also added a second great regatta just prior to the World Championship. We will host the US National Championship October 28-30. This will give sailors the opportunity to sail the same venue in a Major Championship as a tune-up for the Worlds. The US Class Association is excited to host some the Worlds participants in this great regatta.
This website is designed to help the participants find everything they need to make this a trip they will never forget. We have gone out and worked some great deals for local hotels and housing. We are working on flight and shipping discounts now as well. Working with the Lee County Tourist Board, we are setting up tours and discounts to a number of local points of interest. The Beaches of Lee County, Ft Myers Beach, Sanibel and Captiva Islands are only 30 minutes away Of course Disney World is just two hours away by auto.
